Help for People with Periodontitis

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

Periodontitis, more popularly known as gum disease, has plagued many people including children and teenagers. There are about 50% of people in the USA over the age of 13 years old suffering from a form of gum disease or another. Severe gum disease and loose teeth causes a lot of sleepless nights and an unending feeling of suffering.

To take care of our body, we must look into various ways that we can nourish and protect it, as well as keep it safe from harm. There are things that we consciously do that negate a healthy practice and we must revert those actions. For adult teeth, you should be reminded that you should take care of your teeth because it is the last and final set of enamel.  Here are some tips to promote good oral health and know what causes loose teeth and gum disease:

Make sure you don’t miss a chance to brush, floss and gargle bacteria away from your mouth on a regular basis inorder to prevent loose teeth and gum disease. Twice a day is a good daily practice to enforce. Cleaning your mouth by using fluoride toothpaste and gargling mouthwash with antiseptic ingredients will help keep away bad bacteria from multiplying and harming your teeth and gums.

Some people though can’t take the sharpness of the mint added to most commercial mouthwash. Some of these products may promote good stuff, but if you are one of those who are sensitive to these kinds of things, use natural mouthwash instead. A great alternative to artificial mouthwashes is a mixture of baking soda in water. This will help to alkalinize the gums and temporarily discourage bacteria. If you don’t like the grimy taste of baking soda, you can opt to use a salt solution which is made from salt and water diluted together. For those who are too used to the fresh, minty taste of their previous commercial mouthwash, a mix of sage, peppermint and other mints oils in lukewarm water will do the trick.

Just because you read that food debris is the cause for people having problems with their dental health, it doesn’t mean that you should lower your food intake or avoid food. In the fight against gums problems, you should never run out of fuel. Eating a varied diet that follows the pyramid of good food, make sure that you eat a few pieces oflean meat and white meat, good grains and a bunch of vegetables and fresh fruits. Eating fish can also have a good effect on one’s dental health. Fish oil is an anti-inflammatory fatty acid that is rich with omega-3 and aids in gum disease.

Avoiding things that may aggravate gum and tooth problems make the problem even worse, and preventing it is only half the battle. Keep out of sugar and super refined processed food and more. Even acidic foods can cause imbalances in the pH of the mouth and irritate gums. When it takes dental health, make sure you take control, be disciplined and keep healthy!
